Mahogany pods are the woody coverings of the seeds of the Swietenia mahagoni tree. These are about 10cm long and can be used in the aquarium as a natural hiding place.
A biofilm will form on the Mahogany pods. This is very popular with shrimps, which have a natural food source. Placing several pods together creates shelters for bottom dwellers and shrimp. In combination with other botanicals, a natural atmosphere can be created. The pods can of course also be used for decoration in a terrarium, paludarim and insectarium. Be creative and enjoy!
Like other botanicals for the aquarium, Mahogany pods also release tannins into the water. The release will be slow and over a long period of time. This can cause a tea-like color to appear in the water. Similar to a tea bag, the discoloring effect on botanicals will also slowly diminish.

- Mahogany pods are highly buoyant. After 1-2 days they will sink. To speed up the sinking, they can be boiled for an hour, maybe a little longer. This makes them fill up with water faster.
