Mahogany pods are the woody sheaths of the seeds of the Swietenia mahagoni tree. These are about 10 cm long and can be used in the aquarium as a natural hiding place.

A biofilm will form on the Mahogany pods. This is very popular with shrimps who have a natural food source. Placing several pods together creates hiding places for bottom dwellers and shrimp. A natural atmosphere can be created in combination with other botanicals. The pods can of course also be used for decoration in a terrarium, paludarim and insectarium. Be creative and enjoy!

Like other botanicals for the aquarium, Mahogany pods also release tannins into the water. The release will be slow and over a long period of time. This can cause a tea-like color to the water. Similar to a tea bag, the discoloring effect will also slowly weaken with botanicals.
