Mangrove leaves, like other leaves for the aquarium, provide an excellent surface for a biofilm. A lot of micro-organisms are involved in the decomposition of the leaves. All shrimp feed on it. With the presence of leaves, natural food is always available for shrimp, including baby shrimp.
Mangrove contains phytonutrients such as lignans, isoflavones and saponins that have a variety of health benefits. Like Catappa leaves, Mangrove leaves release tannins. These discolor the water and lower the pH. A living environment such as in nature is thus imitated. Shrimps, but also fish will feel more at home. This results in a longer life expectancy, more beautiful colors and better breeding results. Mangrove leaves are a bit thicker and feel a bit leathery. A big advantage of Mangrove leaves is that they last a very long time, sometimes months.
Maximum effect is achieved in the aquarium by stacking a small pile of leaves. Such a pile of Mangrove leaves provides shelter for young brood and fish living on the bottom. They are also not that big and therefore also good to use in a smaller aquarium. Different color nuances make it extra natural and atmospheric. Be creative, the aquarium will brighten up!
Mangrove leaves can be added directly to the aquarium. It may take several days for them to sink. To speed up this process, they can be boiled briefly (5-15 minutes).
Advice: 1 leaf per 10-50 litres. Don't add too much at once. This can cause a fluctuation in the water values.
