Seachem Purigen
Purigen is a first-class filter material with the highest organic removal capacity. High levels of ammonia, nitrite and nitrate can cause algae problems in the aquarium, but remain under control thanks to this unique filter material. Purigen has an enormous surface area to filter impurities from the water. Above all, the filter material can be regenerated from time to time.
Purigen description
Purigen is a high-quality synthetic absorbent that is different from other filter materials. It is not a mix of ion exchangers or absorbers, but a unique macro-porous synthetic polymer that removes dissolved and insoluble impurities from water with a capacity that exceeds all other products by more than 500%. Purigen controls ammonia, nitrate and nitrite by removing nitrogenous organic waste that would otherwise release these harmful compounds. The influence of Purigen on trace elements is minimal. It significantly increases the redox. Water is polished to an unparalleled clarity. Purigen gradually darkens as it depletes and can be easily renewed by treating it with bleach. Purigen is suitable for both fresh and sea water.
Why does Purigen work?
Purigen is a filtration resin with the greatest capacity for removing organic contaminants. No other products come close to making foggy, cloudy water so crystal clear. Yellow discoloration of the water due to driftwood is also prevented. Unlike other products on the market that are simple ion exchange resins, Purigen is specifically designed to be an organic capture resin. When other resins become saturated with metals and other contaminants, Purigen has barely warmed up. Purigen generally ignores the simple elemental compounds and extremely prefers nitrogenous organic compounds. The primary source of nitrogenous compounds is waste. Fish, corals and even plants produce nitrogenous waste. Purigen removes that waste faster and more carefully than anything else on the market.
Purigen capacity
Purigen has an increased capacity thanks to its enormous surface area. All other resins on the market are just spherical extruded beads. These beads remain smooth even under the microscope. Purigen is both spherical and macroreticular. It has microscopic pores that increase the usable surface area many times greater than just a round spherical shape. The grains are smaller than 1mm.
Seachem Purigen makes the water crystal clear, removes discoloration and can be regenerated many times!
Seachem Purigen instructions for use
For more security, use the "Seachem The Bag". Each 250ml treats approximately 1000L for up to 6 months. Exhaustion is indicated by discoloration of the pearls to dark brown to black. Use 100ml Purigen per 400 liters of aquarium water. Overdosing is not possible. Do not under-dose either, but the material will then have to be regenerated in a shorter time.
Regeneration of Purigen
Purigen can be regenerated. As it absorbs waste, Purigen will change from off-white to dark brown to almost black. Once it is depleted, it can be regenerated with a solution of thin bleach and water. The bleach will literally "burn" the organic matter that has been absorbed from the aquarium water. This means the material can be used endlessly. To do this, make a mixture of one part odorless household bleach to one part water and let it soak for 24 hours. Then rinse well with water and let it soak in water. Repeat rinsing and soaking until there is no longer any chlorine smell. Or do a drop test for the presence of chlorine. TIP: take two portions so that a clean portion can always be used while regenerating the other and then save it for the next change.
Available in 100ml, 250ml, 500ml, 1000ml
the 100ml package comes in a ready-made filter net.
