Lobelia cardinalis 'Mini' is a smaller form of the normal Lobelia cardinalis. This dwarf mutation arose by chance when the normal variant was propagated. The plant has beautiful, fresh green leaves that are closely spaced.
By planting a group of several stems together, a beautiful green field can be achieved. It likes to branch out, creating a thick mass. In contrast to the normal lobelia, fewer aerial roots and outliers are also formed. To propagate the plant, the stems can be cut off at the bottom. Clipped tops can be reinserted into the soil to increase the field. Lobelia cardinalis 'Mini' has been the number one plant for many years to experience a 'street' in a Dutch community aquarium.
For compact growth, adequate lighting is preferred, as is the addition of CO2. In its absence, however, the plant also grows well.
