Marsilea minuta, previously known as Marsilea crenata, is an ideal ground cover for an aquarium with less light. The small fern-like plant comes from Asia, where it is common in rice fields. The leaves are very small and rarely become wider than 0.5 cm. It is a robust plant that can thrive in low light and high temperatures. But the plant will respond positively to improved conditions.
Plant small portions a few inches apart. Over time, shoots will develop and the plant will spread throughout the aquarium. The result is a beautiful carpet, which looks very similar to a Glossostigma carpet. The color is slightly darker and the leaves are slightly larger. The height varies from 1 to 3 cm and the roots grow well into the substrate.
