The Alternanthera reineckii is a stem plant with beautiful pink, red tones and provides a nice contrast with other aquarium plants. It is a fairly fast growing aquarium plant that is often used between other background plants. Leaves of Alternanthera reineckii are lanceolate and can grow up to 10cm long. Several leaves emerge from the stem in pairs a few centimeters apart. The leaves have a light green colored vein in addition to their characteristic pink, red color.
When the stems get too long, they can be pruned. The cut tops can be reinserted into the substrate. Over time, this will create a beautiful full bunch of this eye-catcher.
This species is relatively easy to keep for an Alternanthera, but does require sufficient light and fertilizer. To really enjoy this gem, it is recommended to add CO2 to the aquarium. Nutritious soil and extra iron will also do him good.
