Tropica Plant Growth Substrate

Tropica Plant Growth Substrate is a breeding ground for aquarium plants. By applying a thin layer under a layer of aquarium gravel, aquarium plants can have sufficient nutrients. The layer functions as a nutrient depot that can release nutrients over a long period of time.

The main ingredients are natural clay and peat dust. These have the property of slowly releasing nutrients to the plant roots of aquarium plants, but at the same time storing nutrients from the aquarium water in the soil. This allows a buffer of nutrients to be built up, so that aquarium plants always have enough nutrients available to grow lushly.

Available in 1 or 2.5 liter packaging

Tropica Plant Growth Substrate provides aquarium plants with nutrients to grow lushly, also for the long term!

Usage advice for Tropica Plant Growth Substrate

Plant Growth Substrate is applied in a layer of 1 cm thick on the bottom during the construction of the aquarium. The aquarium gravel is then applied over this layer. Aquarium plants will quickly develop roots so they can reach and utilize the nutrients. When removing aquarium plants, the substrate can rise and spread throughout the aquarium. Some caution is therefore advisable.

Recommended amount of Tropica Plant Growth Substrate:

Aquarium capacity (L)
Surface size (cm)
Required quantity (L)
27 30x30 0.90
48 30x40 1.20
63 30x60 1.80
85 35x70 2.45
128 40x80 3.20
180 40x100 4.00
250 50x100 5.00

Whether or not a breeding ground in the aquarium?

Opinions are often divided on this. The benefits of Plant Growth Substrate speak for themselves:
- Nutrients for healthy growth and development for the long term
- Neutral and has no influence on the KH or pH values of the water
- The substrate retains nutrients and makes them available to the plant roots
Where things regularly go wrong is that people apply too thick a layer of nutrient medium in the aquarium. A thin layer of 1cm is more than sufficient. If the layer is too thick, there is a risk of poor water circulation, which can cause soil rot. This can be counteracted by using bottom heating and a gravel layer that allows sufficient water circulation. In addition, the bottom of an aquarium should be left alone as much as possible. Regularly moving plants or changing the layout will also not improve the stability of the aquarium. With this in mind, a breeding ground will always contribute to a more positive development of aquarium plants.
