Yellow, orange and red shrimp get their color largely from natural food colorings. These dyes, so-called carotenoids, are mainly found in seaweed, flowers, fruits and leafy vegetables. Shrimp and crabs convert carotenoids into their own colorants, especially astaxanthin. This involves establishing a molecular connection with the protein beta-crustacyanin. These molecular compounds are stored in special color cells and lead to the species-specific coloration of the shrimp.

Ja, er wordt van gegeten. Twee weekjes nauwelijks dus wat kan ik er van zeggen? Niets eigenlijk. Als mijn garnaaltjes straks nóg mooier op kleur zijn zal ik het zeker laten weten. Is meteen het nadeel van deze recenties: Veel producten moet je een tijd gebruiken om er echt iets zinnigs over te zeggen. Waarom dan toch maar twee sterren? Het zijn héle kleine korreltjes die eerst een tijdje blijven drijven en dan - verspreid over de hele bak - zinken. En ik vond het juist zo leuk om één voertabletje / stasfje in de bak te gooien en alle garnalen samen te zien eten. Dat lukt dus niet met dit spul. Ik ga om die reden hierna wel naar iets anders kijken.
Kan nog niet echt zeggen of het iets aan de kleur van de garnaaltjes doet maar weet wel dat ze de korrel heel graag lusten
De garnalen zijn er dol op. De detail afbeelding klopt echter niet, op die afbeelding zijn het rechthoekige wafers, maar in werkelijkheid zijn het korrels. Over de kleurversterking capaciteiten kan ik nog niets zeggen, maar ik heb sowieso vooral gekocht om wat meer variatie te hebben.
Vroeger in wafel vorm en nu in korrels. Weeral het voordeel dat verschillende garnalen er zich aan tegoed doen. In enkele minuten blijft er niets meer over zodat het aquarium netjes blijft. Er is ook na enkele maanden van gebruik een intensere rode kleur te merken aan de rode garnalen.
