- Provides natural hiding places for fish
Beech leaves have the property of lowering the pH of the aquarium water naturally, without causing strong discoloration of the water. In the rainforests of the Amazon region or rivers and streams in China, many dead leaves fall into the water. The leaves release tannic acids and humic substances into the water, lowering the pH and hardness. Beech leaves are a particularly suitable tool to simulate these natural conditions in the aquarium. The decay of the leaves also stimulates microbiological life. This improves the natural, biological balance!
Vegetable-eating fish or other animals like to eat the beech leaves and this is a good change from a varied diet. Fish feel at home among the fallen leaves and Corydoras and dwarf cichlids in particular like to hide under the leaves.
Shrimp also love it because of the many microscopic foods it contains! Beech leaves also contain substances that prevent algae growth and the decorative value in biotope aquariums makes this product a highly underestimated natural product!
