Aquarium plants for the mid-ground reach above the foreground plants and can be placed in front of the background plants. The midground can be covered with medium height plants or plant groups or solitairy plants on the Golden Ratio. Combine different types of plants with a contrast in leave shape, leave color and texture for maximum results.
Aponogeton crispus is from Sri Lanka and is a beautiful plant in the aquarium. The transparent, wavy, light green leaves are about 25-50cm long and the plant is 15-25cm wide.

Cryptocoryne x willisii is an aquarium plant that comes from Sri Lanka and is sometimes incorrectly called 'Nevellii'. The C. x willisii grows 7-20cm high and forms a compact group with elongated leaves.
Cyperus helferi comes from Thailand and is the first species to be used as an aquarium plant. The ribbon-shaped leaves are 20-35cm long and have a fresh green color.
Lagenandra meeboldii 'Red' is an aquarium plant native to India and closely resembles a medium-sized, broad-leaved Cryptocoryne. The leaves are 4-8cm wide and 6-12cm long with colors from green to violet.
Microsorum pteropus is an Asian fern that also grows underwater as an aquarium plant. It grows to a height of 15-30cm and can be attached to a piece of wood or stone.
Microsorum pteropus 'Narrow' is a variant of Microsorum pteropus and has narrower leaves that are also shorter in length (10-20cm). Ideal for a small aquarium.
