Although the best way to keep algae out is to have a healthy plant mass, you can't always keep it out. Sometimes the filter becomes clogged, a problem arises in the CO2 dosing, someone feeds the fish too much or the lighting stays on for too long due to a defective timer.
These shocks (which seem insignificant at first glance) weaken plants and give algae an entry point to strike. APT fix works by restoring balance to the system by targeting algae in their weak spot. Algae have a poorly protected cell wall. When the recommended dosage is administered with spot dosing, algae development immediately stops and plants can recover.
This method is an effective way to remove algae from hardscape such as stones and wood. Drain the aquarium as much as possible so that the hardscape dries. Drip the APT fix onto the affected areas with a pipette. (do not drip directly onto plants)
This way is preferred. Turn off the filter. Spray APT f underwater with a pipette or syringe onto the algae-covered stones, wood and plants. Don't forget to turn the filter back on afterwards. Do not spray on mosses, liverworts, Vallisneria and other plants with soft leaves. Repeat every 24 hours, area by area.
