Foreground plants are basicly aquarium plants that stay low. Combine different types of aquarium plants that provide contrast with each other in color, leave shape and height. This way a playful and interesting under water landscape can be created.
Aquarium plants for the mid-ground reach above the foreground plants and can be placed in front of the background plants. The midground can be covered with medium height plants or plant groups or solitairy plants on the Golden Ratio. Combine different types of plants with a contrast in leave shape, leave color and texture for maximum results.
Plants for the background will grow tall and serve as a mask for the background. Also with the background plants in the aquarium it is important to choose for contrasting plants with their neighbours. Look for contrast in leave color, shape, texture and height.
In Vitro aquarium plants are grown in a laboratory under steriel conditions. Tiny pieces of tissue plant material is placed on special gel to grow new healthy, algae free, pesticide free, snail free and germ free plants in a cup. Staurogyne repens is a compact, robust and fresh green plant for the foreground of the aquarium. It is native to the southern Amazons and grows to a height of about 5 to 10 cm. An ideal plant species for a nano aquarium.
Taxiphyllum barbieri is a species of moss that is very easy to keep in the aquarium. The moss comes from Asia and is therefore often referred to as Java moss. It grows up to 10cm thick and attaches to a variety of surfaces. Ideal for covering stones, back walls or driftwood.
Taxiphyllum 'Spiky' is a more robust moss species and forms thicker shoots. These are strongly branched with many 'leaves' and have a deep green color. A bit like the big brother of 'Christmas moss'.
Utricularia graminifolia originates from Asia and belongs to the bladderwort family. Under good conditions: plenty of light, soft water, CO2 addition and sufficient nutrients, a compact turf with a fresh green color is created. The leaves are soft and supple and ideal for an aquascape to simulate a grass landscape.
Vallisneria nana is an aquarium plant from Australia and has long thin leaves less than 1cm wide with a dark green color. The height is also quite low for a valisneria.
Vesicularia montagnei 'Christmas' is a species of moss for the aquarium originating from Brazil. It owes its name 'Christmas moss' to its structure with side branches that resembles a pine tree. There is a clear difference here with the standard 'Java moss'. The requirements for lighting, CO2 and nutrients are low and Christmas Moss grows in almost every aquarium.
Vesicularia ferriei 'Weeping' is a species of moss for the aquarium originating from Asia. He is better known as Weeping Moss. The moss has a robust shape and grows downwards with fresh green growth points. The length is about 1 to 3 cm.
Alternanthera reineckii 'Pink' comes from South America and has a purple color on the underside of the leaves. This provides an effective contrast with many other green aquarium plants. Particularly when placed in a group.

Echinodorus 'Barthii' is a beautiful cultivar that makes a beautiful impression as a solitary in a large aquarium. The height of this aquarium plant is 25-50cm and also becomes 20-30cm wide. The leaf color varies from dark red to dark green.

Echinodorus 'Ozelot' is a hybrid between Echinodorus schluteri 'Leopard' and Echinodorus 'Barthii'. A very beautiful aquarium plant with beautifully marked leaves of 20-40cm long.

Echinodorus palaefolius var. latifolius occurs in swampy areas in Brazil and has round leaves with horizontal leaf bases and grows to a height of 20-40cm.

Echinodorus 'Rosé' is a hybrid between Echinodorus horemanii 'Red' and Echinodorus horizontalis. This aquarium plant grows to a height of 25-40cm and a width of 15-25cm. Young leaves have a beautiful pink color.

Rotala rotundifolia 'H'ra' is an aquarium plant with fairly small leaves and an overhanging or creeping growth. The compact growth and warm color offer many possibilities for use in the layout of the aquarium.
This Myriophyllum retains its beautiful green color in the aquarium, even at high light intensity. Each stem grows to about 2-3cm wide and branches easily, quickly creating a dense, lush forest.
Taxiphyllum alternans 'Taiwan' grows horizontally and overhanging, somewhat similar to Weeping Moss. It is excellent to use to adhere to surfaces and then hide technology in the aquarium.
Proserpinaca palustris 'Cuba' is a characteristic aquarium plant that is easily recognized by its strongly serrated leaf edge. A plant with a high decorative value for the aquarium! The height of the stems varies between 10 and 40 cm.
Eleocharis acicularis is a popular aquarium plant. Not without reason, because it grows in almost all conditions in the aquarium. It prefers an open space without shade from overhanging plants.
