Foreground plants are basicly aquarium plants that stay low. Combine different types of aquarium plants that provide contrast with each other in color, leave shape and height. This way a playful and interesting under water landscape can be created.
Aquarium plants for the mid-ground reach above the foreground plants and can be placed in front of the background plants. The midground can be covered with medium height plants or plant groups or solitairy plants on the Golden Ratio. Combine different types of plants with a contrast in leave shape, leave color and texture for maximum results.
Plants for the background will grow tall and serve as a mask for the background. Also with the background plants in the aquarium it is important to choose for contrasting plants with their neighbours. Look for contrast in leave color, shape, texture and height.
In Vitro aquarium plants are grown in a laboratory under steriel conditions. Tiny pieces of tissue plant material is placed on special gel to grow new healthy, algae free, pesticide free, snail free and germ free plants in a cup. Ludwigia glandulosa comes from North America and is a beautiful, colorful aquarium plant. It grows slowly and becomes 15-40cm high and 5-12cm wide.
Ludwigia palustris can be found all over the world and as an aquarium plant it is redder in color and smaller than the well-known Ludwigia repens 'Rubin'. Each stem grows 10-30cm high and 2-4cm wide.

Ludwigia repens 'Rubin' is a variant of Ludwigia repens and has intense dark red leaves. This aquarium plant from North America grows to a height of 20-50cm and a width of 4-6cm.
Micranthemum umbrosum is a beautiful aquarium plant from the USA with small round leaves and whose stems grow to a height of 10-25cm.
Murdannia keisak is an aquarium plant from Asia where it grows in rice fields and looks very similar to bamboo. The stems grow straight up and at a high rate.
Myriophyllum mattogrossense comes from Mato Grosso, Brazil near the Amazon River. It is a particularly decorative aquarium plant with brightly colored, feathery leaves and reddish stems that grow 30-60cm long.
Ammannia crassicaulis comes from Africa and is a beautiful, highly recommended aquarium plant, although it does require some light. The height is about 30-50cm.
Pogostemon erectus is a decorative plant for the central zone or background. This aquarium plant comes from India and has a special, bright green color, whose buds can even develop a warm glow under intensive lighting. The stems of 10-30cm and fresh plumes give a lively appearance to the aquarium.
Pogostemon helferi was discovered by aquarium enthusiasts in Thailand, near the border with Burma. Here it is called 'Downoi' (little star) and it is easy to see why.

Pogostemon stellata is found in Asia and Australia and is distinguished by its beautiful shape and color. Stems of this aquarium plant grow 20-60cm long and up to 10cm wide.
Rotala 'Bonsai' is an aquarium plant with thick stems and round leaves. The buds turn yellow/red in good lighting. Suitable for a nano aquarium.
Rotala macrandra is an aquarium plant with unprecedented beauty, but unfortunately it does make some demands on the aquarium. The plant originally comes from India and grows to a maximum height of about 40-50cm. Underwater, the plant in the aquarium develops beautiful red leaves that make a graceful impression.
Rotala 'Green' is related to the Rotala rotundifolia, but the leaves remain green in color, even under intensive lighting. It comes from Asia and the stems grow to a height of 40-50cm.
Rotala rotundifolia literally means "plant with round leaves". However, this only applies to the above-water form. This aquarium plant comes from Asia and has long, thin underwater leaves of 2-3cm with stems of 15-30cm.

Shinnersia rivularis 'Weiss-Grün' is a variant of Shinnersia rivularis and is characterized by the white veins on the leaves and grows 30-60cm high and up to 10cm wide. The mutation was discovered in the Dennerle aquarium plant nursery.

Staurogyne repens is a compact, robust and fresh green plant for the foreground of the aquarium. It is native to the southern Amazons and grows to a height of about 5 to 10 cm. An ideal plant species for a nano aquarium.
Vallisneria americana 'Gigantea' comes from Asia and is an easy aquarium plant that grows quickly and is suitable for a large aquarium. In most aquariums it grows so large (50-150cm) that the leaves will float along the surface.
Alternanthera reineckii 'Pink' comes from South America and has a purple color on the underside of the leaves. This provides an effective contrast with many other green aquarium plants. Particularly when placed in a group.

Rotala rotundifolia 'H'ra' is an aquarium plant with fairly small leaves and an overhanging or creeping growth. The compact growth and warm color offer many possibilities for use in the layout of the aquarium.
This Myriophyllum retains its beautiful green color in the aquarium, even at high light intensity. Each stem grows to about 2-3cm wide and branches easily, quickly creating a dense, lush forest.
