Foreground plants are basicly aquarium plants that stay low. Combine different types of aquarium plants that provide contrast with each other in color, leave shape and height. This way a playful and interesting under water landscape can be created.
Aquarium plants for the mid-ground reach above the foreground plants and can be placed in front of the background plants. The midground can be covered with medium height plants or plant groups or solitairy plants on the Golden Ratio. Combine different types of plants with a contrast in leave shape, leave color and texture for maximum results.
Plants for the background will grow tall and serve as a mask for the background. Also with the background plants in the aquarium it is important to choose for contrasting plants with their neighbours. Look for contrast in leave color, shape, texture and height.

Echinodorus palifolius occurs in swampy areas in Brazil and has round leaves with horizontal leaf bases and grows to a height of 20-40cm.
Helanthium bolivianum 'Quadricostatus' comes from South America and has characteristic, light green leaves that grow to 10-15cm long. A very beautiful aquarium plant that does not require many requirements.

Echinodorus 'Red Diamond' is a cultivar and probably a cross between Echinodorus horemanni 'Red' and Echinodorus 'Barthii'. The result is a hybrid aquarium plant with ruby red sword-shaped leaves of 15-20cm long.
Echinodorus 'Reni' is a well-known cultivar aquarium plant and belongs to the smaller Echinodorus species with red leaves. In the aquarium this plant grows to about 15-40cm high and 15-25cm wide. New leaves are reddish brown to deep red in color.
Echinodorus 'Rosé' is a hybrid between Echinodorus horemanii 'Red' and Echinodorus horizontalis. This aquarium plant grows to a height of 25-40cm and a width of 15-25cm. Young leaves have a beautiful pink color.
Helanthium tenellum, formerly Echinodorus tenellus, is the smallest variant of the Echinodorus species. This makes it ideal for a small aquarium. The plant spreads via suckers and eventually a beautiful, fresh green grass carpet will develop in the aquarium.
Elatin hydropiper is a stem plant that is particularly beautiful when it forms a carpet over the bottom of the aquarium. With its very fine leaves it is an ideal plant to use in a nano aquarium
Eleocharis pusilla 'mini' is a variant of the well-known Needle Grass family and is even smaller than Eleocharis parvula. This dwarf aquarium plant is therefore predestined for use in the nano aquarium. After some time, Eleocharis acicularis 'Mini' will have covered the ground with a field full of fine, fresh green blades.
Eleocharis parvula is a low-growing, grass-like aquarium plant that spreads over the foreground with stolons and grows to a height of about 3-10cm.

Fissidens fontanus is a special moss species for the aquarium and comes from North America. It looks like it consists of small green feathers. The color is deep green and the growth is quite slow. Compared to other moss types, it needs much more light.
